Under the sponsorship agreement, the leagues will be named Aksa Super League and Aksa 1st League for the 2021–2022 and 2022–2023 seasons. Aksa Energy TRNC Plant Manager Şener Şentürk stated that, just as in the arts, they will continue their supportive role in sports: “With the signing ceremony held with the Cyprus Turkish Football Federation, we have become the title sponsor of the TRNC Super League and 1st League. Under our sponsorship agreement, the leagues will be named Aksa Super League and Aksa 1st League for two years. We wish this to be beneficial for the people of Northern Cyprus and for football.”

Şentürk noted that Aksa continues to carry out social responsibility projects in many areas in the TRNC: “We do not see ourselves solely as an energy producer in the TRNC. Since day one, we have been developing social responsibility projects for the island. As in Türkiye, we take responsibility for protecting biodiversity in the TRNC. In this context, we monitor the Mediterranean monk seals along the coasts of Northern Cyprus, identifying which beaches they visit and assessing their habitats and associated risks.

Last April, we donated 2.5 million Turkish Lira to support efforts against the COVID-19 pandemic. We have also supported football clubs in the TRNC. Today, with the title sponsorship of the TRNC Super League, we are taking our support for sports a step further. We believe in the unifying and bridging power of sports and are confident that this sponsorship will contribute to the development of football in Northern Cyprus.”
